The
reality is that you will never truly be able to appreciate just how hard it can
be to lose weight when you have hypothyroidism unless you have been suffering from the
disease for quite some time. This is a condition that not only results in you
having weight related issues but there are many other symptoms too.
As of
right now there are about twenty-seven million Americans all over the United States
who have been diagnosed with the disease. But you might be surprised to hear
that there are many more millions who have yet to be given news of their
diagnosis!
On
top of these shocking statistics there are a lot of people out there that are
suffering from a condition known as subclinical hypothyroidism.
This
is basically a condition where the person has a thyroid that’s working fine but
still they experience a lot of the symptoms that are usually only associated
with people that are suffering from hypothyroidism. This condition comes about
because the person in question is on a poor diet! But the great news is that if
the person simply improves their diet then they can get rid of this condition
pretty fast!
One
of the negative impacts of having hypothyroidism is that your metabolism will
become extremely slow which will result in you burning a lot less calories!
The
reason your metabolism becomes extremely slow is because your thyroid glands
are not producing enough T3, and T4 which are the hormones that are largely
responsible for maintaining your basic rate of metabolism.
If
you're one of the people who doesn't have enough thyroid hormones running
through your body then you are going to end up burning a lot less calories than
a normal person… hence why people who are hypothyroid find it so hard to shed
fat.
But
the great news is that if you implement the steps that I share with you in this
article then you will find that losing weight is extremely easy… and even
enjoyable.
Tip Number 1: Ensure You Get Diagnosed
and Treated By a Qualified Doctor
You
have to make sure that you get diagnosed and treated by your local doctor as
this is the most important step of all. You need not bother with the other steps
I share in this article if you don’t implement this tip.
How
you’re diagnosed will totally depend on the results of the blood test you’re
given. This blood test that your doctor gives you will basically measure the
amount of T3, T4 and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) you have inside your
body. If the test results come back showing that you have a lot of TSH but
relatively low levels of T4 and T3 in comparison then it will be deemed that
you indeed are suffering from a low thyroid.
Once
you have been properly diagnosed your doctor will move onto the next stage which
is to give you a medication called levothyroxine. This will help to slowly but
surely get your levels of thyroid hormone back to where it should be.
Tip Number 2: Start To Eat A Lot More
Healthy Meals
It’s
very, very important that you begin to eat healthily if you haven’t been doing
so already. This is the one step that will help you lose the most weight, even
when you have hypothyroidism. You should try to make sure that every meal that
you consume contains a good portion of both vegetables and lean protein.
You
might be surprised to hear but protein is actually the most satiating of all
the macronutrients out there… even fats and carbs. This means you will
literally find hours and hours go by without you feeling the need to eat. The
other great thing about protein is that it will help you preserve all the
metabolism boosting muscle mass which again is very important when you want to
lose weight!
Tip Number 3: Eat More Fiber Rich Foods
and Totally Cut Out The Sugary Junk Foods
The
best way to lose an incredible amount of weight is not only to eat foods that
are going to be good for you but to also cut out all the junk foods that you
are used to eating. Consuming empty calories really isn’t great for your health
and will just make losing weight that much harder, especially when you have an
underactive thyroid.
Instead
of all the junk you should focus on consuming a lot more fiber rich foods which
are especially good for your digestive system. Foods high in fiber are also
extremely satisfying for your hunger and will result in you consuming far less
food over the course of a day which will inevitably result in you burning that
much more weight!
Tip Number 4: Exercise Often
Once
you have nailed your diet, the next best thing you can do is start to implement
a solid fitness regimen. Doing so will help you burn that much more calories
which is absolutely what you want to do in order to get amazing results.
Therefore I’d highly recommend that even if you’re only able to spend 5-10
minutes a day doing exercise, that you do it because it’s still better than
doing nothing at all.
You
see when you exercise on a regular basis, especially when you do things like
weight training you are going to be building up a good amount of muscle mass
which will result in your metabolism going up and up.
The
higher your metabolism, the more calories you are going to end up burning…
which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to lose weight!
Keep
in mind that consistent effort is extremely important when you’re trying to
lose weight, so keep up the effort regardless of the obstacles that come your
way.
Please
don’t ever use hypothyroidism as an excuse to do nothing. Rather just keep
putting in the effort, day after day until you get the results you want. It
really is as simple as that.
