Men’s Short Hair Styles for 2014

For a few years now, longer hair for men has been popular. Celebrities ranging from Brad Pitt to Joaquin Phoenix tried out longer hair styles and experimented with facial hair. But now that longer hair and facial hair are common, one way to stand out is to return to more traditional styles for men and rock short hair once more. If you are ready to make the cut, try one of these popular styles for 2014:

Boyish Charm

If you’re going for that boyish, charming boy-band look, then a style with boyish charm is for you. This style can range in length from just a couple of inches to 6 inches or more on top. The key is to taper the cut so that the top layers are accentuated, but the sides blend together and are quite short.

To maintain this style, you will need to use hair products with staying power, such as a traditional gel or a more modern holding product that gives the hair a softer look. Go for products that shine for a classic look, or matte products to make the look a little more modern.

The Dramatic Conservative

If you love conservative hairstyles, but want a little drama more from your hair, then the dramatic conservative is for you. This style is short on the sides and longer on the top. What gives the look drama is how much longer the top is than the sides and how crisp the edges. The sides and back of the hair are cut with a 2 or 3 trimmer blade, while the top is cut with scissors only.

Matte styling products will help hold this look in place and give you a professional appearance rather than a shaggy look.

Short and Proud

If you want a hair style that is tough and no-fuss, there is no simpler hairstyle than the traditional buzz. This style uses a 2 or 3 blade all over the head. You can even do this style at home, but we don’t recommend it. Even though the style is simple, your barber will be able to make any adjustments to the base style that avoids your problem areas, such as hair sticking out strangely from your cowlick.

Daily maintenance is nearly none existent for this style. However, you will have to visit a barber every 2-3 weeks to maintain the look.

The Modern Flat Top

High and Tight

This style is popular with the military and has been for some time. The modern version of this look is slightly longer, but still shorter than the dramatic conservative. The high and tight is simply a short cut that is a little longer on top than on the sides. If you want, pair your conservative cut with a beard and mustache like this guy for more impact. Look at The Art of Shaving products to get you started.

If you want to add drama to your look in 2013, start with one of these styles. You may be surprised at how much better you feel.
