5 Essentials for Your At-Home Spa Day

You deserve a little rest and relaxation after a long week. Driving hours in traffic, managing a busy household, helping the kids with their homework and extracurricular activities, or keeping up with the demand at work can all put a toll on you. And at some point, your body will need to de-stress and unwind. So, a visit to your favorite spa might be the perfect solution, yet your responsibilities may prevent you from even getting there. But don’t fret! These five essentials are all you need to have your own spa day at home ― no appointment needed.

Essential oils do wonders, as they contain all sorts of nutrients that stimulate hair growth and moisturize skin. After washing your hair with your favorite shampoo, give yourself a hot oil treatment for your hair and scalp and revitalize those roots. Olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, or a mix of all three can be used. Don’t forget to add a couple of drops of oil onto your skin to keep it smooth and moisturized throughout the entire day.

Handy Foot Spas

Your busy schedule may keep you from providing care to one of the most used areas of your body ― your feet ― they are begging for a little TLC. Invest in a foot spa with water jets, heated vibrations, and built-in acupuncture attachments to experience the professional spa treatment you deserve. Sprinkle Epsom salt in the water and let it dissolve to help alleviate aches and muscle pains. Add a couple drops of tea tree oil to the water as well. It helps prevent fungus and other unwanted infections from plaguing your delicate feet.

Body Butters and Creams

Instead of slathering your body with lotion when you come out of the shower, try body butter. Body butter are much thicker than lotions and usually contain shea butter or cocoa butter, which are excellent natural moisturizers for your skin. After your shower and foot soak, rub your body with a body butter of your choosing and feel relaxed. Plus, there’s no need to spray any perfume on your body because body butter alone smell great! You can also create your own whipped body creams with the same ingredients. Using a kitchen mixer, combine shea or cocoa butter with coconut oil and a drop or two of castor oil or your favorite essential oil, and whip them together until the oils are smooth and fluffy, like whipped cream.

Scented Candles

Your surroundings play a major role in making your at-home spa a success. Scented candles create a relaxing ambiance that helps you completely unwind. Light a variety of peppermint- and eucalyptus- scented candles around the area. These scents have cooling, antispasmodic qualities, which are perfect for relaxing those strained muscles and setting a calm spa environment.

Ambient Music

You probably want peace and quiet during your at-home spa day, but ambient music will definitely add tranquility to your at-home spa day. Rock ‘n’ roll, hip-hop, or country music may fill your robust Spotify playlists, but ambient music focuses less on rhythm and more on atmosphere and tone. It provides the perfect opportunity to relax and meditate on the positive things in your life ― and your much-anticipated at-home spa day.
