Caution! Laundering Baby's Clothes

The problem with washing baby's clothes is finding the cleaning product that won't irritate baby's skin.

Here we will show you the methods to safely wash your baby's clothes.

Preparation

As you know, newborns' skin is very sensitive. For this reason before washing some of the clothes you should take measures. For example, you should put small items like socks in a mesh bag. Also, make sure you fasten all fabric fasteners. This will prevent clothing from damaging.

When you are washing clothes for the first time, carefully read the label and follow the instructions marked there. Newborns' sleepware has to be resistant to flame. Care-label instructions should be followed strictly. Otherwise you risk ruining the fabrics.

Detergents

Experts say that you don't need to buy baby detergents to wash newborn's clothes unless your infant has a very sensitive skin or allergies. Using regular laundry detergent is absolutely okay. Note that a liquid detergent is better than powder ones. Why? Because liquid cleaners rinse out fast and completely, whereas powders may form flakes inside the clothing and irritate baby's skin.

If you are unsure of using a regular detergent, why don't you try something? Wash a couple of baby items with a regular detergent. Then watch your baby's reactions. If he or she seems to be uncomfortable wearing the clothing or should there appear any skin irritation, don't use this type of detergents. Instead try products that contain no fragrances or dyes.

Stains

The best way to deal with stains is to treat them while they are still fresh. Dried out stains come off with difficulty. So once the stain occurs, make sure you remove as much of it as you can. Then put it in the laundry.

How should you treat spit-up, breast milk and food stains? Fill a wash basin with cool water and soak the stained clothing inside. Add a product that contains enzymes. If this doesn't help, you can try using an all-purpose cleaner that removes stains.

How should you treat urine? This process has two steps. The first is to treat the affected area with a solution of one cup of water and one tablespoon of ammonia. It is wise to test a small area of the fabric to ensure that the clothing is colorfast. After that put in the washing machine and use a launder normally.

How should you treat fruit and vegetables stains? The first thing you can do is to rinse the affected area with water. The second option is to apply a prewash stain remover on the affected area, then wash normally. The third method you can use is to prepare a solution of one part of water and one part of rubbing alcohol and place the clothing inside.

How should you treat baby oil? For dealing with baby oil, you can go for a prewash stain remover. Then wash with hot water. Make sure you check the care-label for the maximum temperature at which this garment should be washed.

CAUTION! Do not mix bleach with ammonia and vinegar. This causes hazardous toxic fumes.

Washing cloth diapers

Note that you ought to wash cloth diapers separately from other clothing! After use, be sure to rinse the diapers in the toilet. A good idea is to use a diaper sprayer. Diapers should be washed every two to three days.

It is also a good idea to do a cold prewash before you wash them normally. When choosing a detergent, make sure it contains no perfumes or dyes. When you wash diapers with hot water, always rinse them twice.
